Rethinking workplace and clinical training under a condensed programme
A purpose-built workplace and clinical training environment designed to support day-to-day operations while strengthening how staff and clinicians learn.
With its Sydney lease coming to an end, Medtronic saw an opportunity to rethink how its workplace could better support evolving ways of working. Rather than treating the move as a standard relocation, the organisation set out to create a workplace that brought people closer together, supported flexible work, and integrated a high-quality clinical training environment.
Working closely with Medtronic’s team, Athena Blue supported the programme through early planning and delivery, guiding decisions across workplace strategy, compliance, and change management. The condensed timeframe required clear alignment across stakeholders and careful coordination of technical, regulatory, and cultural considerations from the outset.
- Clinical training integration: Supporting live medical training alongside corporate operations, including reclassification of one floor for education use.
- Technical and compliance approvals: Managing regulatory requirements for lead-lined walls and specialist equipment.
- Condensed programme: Coordinating more than 15 specialist consultants and global stakeholders within a tight timeframe.
- Site and lease constraints: Confirming the location could support both workplace operations and clinical training without delay.
The workplace now provides a clear mix of spaces that support collaboration, focus, and hybrid work. Teams have settled into an environment that feels practical, welcoming, and better aligned to how they work day to day.
The purpose-built training environment has strengthened clinical education and engagement, with dedicated rooms and live-stream capability supporting a smoother experience for staff and visitors. The client-facing floor also provides a stronger platform to showcase Medtronic’s technology, supporting both learning and connection.
This project reflects the value of early alignment and strategy-led planning when a workplace must support both operational needs and specialist training, particularly within a condensed programme and complex compliance pathway.
